The Whole Life Carbon (WLC) Benchmarking Report 2025 is a snapshot of whole life carbon assessments from new homes projects, developed to enable the sector to benchmark the current performance of new homes more accurately.
The report provides a summary of embodied carbon trends and distributions derived from 48 WLC assessments, providing an empirically grounded picture of current practice according to building archetype and other relevant characteristics.
The primary metric used in this study is Carbon Intensity, expressed in kilograms of carbon dioxide equivalent per square metre of floor area (kgCO₂e/m²). This allows direct comparison between projects of different scales and designs.
