Householder guidance: buying a new low energy home (heat pump edition)

The Future Homes Hub has worked with industry to develop a range of new materials to support the customer journey, offering practical tips and best practices for implementing Future Homes Standard (FHS) technologies.

These have been informed by deep-dive interviews with home builders and developers across the private and affordable rent sectors, which focused on the real-world transition to new technologies such as heat pumps, mechanical ventilation and PV. The resulting guides and templates will help your team gain expert insights into consumer experiences and information strategies designed to ensure positive outcomes at every stage.

The Future Homes Hub householder guidance document for homebuilders – ‘Buying a new low energy home – heat pump edition’ is written for prospective new home buyers, and highlights the features and benefits of a low energy home. It draws out how the householder experience may differ from living in an existing home, and how to get the best from their new home.

Whilst the guide is intentionally generic, we have created three versions to better accommodate the use of different technologies. Each are available as online and print-ready version.

Download the print ready version of each edition below.

Homebuilder members who wish to have a version with their own logo alongside the Future Homes Hub logo can request this by email

Further personalisation of our Householder guidance documents

Whilst we recognise that every home will have slightly different specifications, it’s not practical to create a myriad of versions for all of the combinations and permutations.

We are comfortable for housebuilders to use our content in the development of their own guidance documents, with the following restrictions:

  • Only text content can be used; the use of any of the images in the guidance is restricted.
  • Housebuilders to use their own design and branding.
  • As the Future Homes Hub will not have editorial control, please do not reference the Future Homes Hub
  • Any text used is the responsibility of the housebuilder and there can be no claims against the Future Homes Hub.

Optimising the wider FHS home customer journey

We have developed two further guides to provide practical hints and tips on how to deliver a consistent, positive customer journey from marketing, sales and letting through handover, aftercare and future tenancies.
